SPEND AN EVENING WITH GROUCHO MARX AT ECU

 

Award-winning actor, director and playwright Frank Ferrante recreates his PBS, New York and London acclaimed portrayal of legendary comedian Groucho Marx in this fact paced 90 minutes of hilarity at East Central University’s Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. on April 9, 2013.

Tickets are $18 and may be purchased online at tickets.ecok.edu or at the box office the night of the show.

“STOMP OUT SEXUAL ASSAULT” EVENT SET FOR APRIL 6 IN ADA

“Stomp out Sexual Assault”, a community-wide awareness day, will be held on Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wintersmith Park in Ada.

East Central University’s Campus Initiative to Reduce Crime Against Women (CIRCAW) in partnership with The Chickasaw Nation, Family Crisis Center and the Pontotoc County District Attorney’s Office is staging the event in conjunction with April’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

The event will feature a 5K walk, free hamburgers, entertainment and other free park activities.

MARQUARDT WINNER OF ECU CONCERTO COMPETITION; TO HAVE PIANO SOLO PERFORMANCE WITH WIND ENSEMBLE

 

Claire Marquardt is the winner of the Second Annual East Central University Concerto Competition, it was announced recently by the ECU Music Department.

Marquardt, a junior from Poteau, will have the honor of performing a piano solo with the ECU Wind Ensemble’s Spring Concert on Thursday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ataloa Theatre of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

She will perform George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, one of the most popular pieces ever arranged for piano and wind ensemble.

ECU TO HOST TRANSFER ENROLLMENT DAY ON APRIL 10

East Central University will conduct a transfer enrollment day on Wednesday, April 10, at ECU’s Bill S. Cole University Center, beginning with a 12:30 p.m. check-in.

Students will have the opportunity to view the campus, meet with staff members from multiple departments on campus, and enroll with a faculty advisor. Pre-registration and admission to ECU is necessary.

ECU MUSIC FACULTY MEMBERS TO PRESENT “SOUND THE TRUMPET”

East Central University music faculty members Melody Baggech, Doug Laramore, and Rudy Lupinski will present “Sound the Trumpet”, a recital featuring music for soprano and trumpet, on Thursday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ada Arts and Heritage Center.

The performance will include music of A. Scarlatti, G.F. Handel, Rossini, Purcell and local composers, Victoria Davison and Lupinski, as well as several jazz pieces. The concert will be assisted by Bronson Warren on contrabass and Ben Finley on drums.

The concert is free and open to the public.

EIGHTH ANNUAL SCISSORTAIL CREATIVE WRITING FESTIVAL COMES TO ECU

The eighth annual Scissortail Creative Writing Festival, featuring Andrew Hudgins, Constance Squires, Anna Myers and Walter Bargen, in addition to more than 50 published authors from Oklahoma and beyond is April 4 - 6, 2013, on the campus of East Central University in Ada, Okla.

All sessions are free and open to the public.

Andrew Hudgins’ was born in Killeen, Texas and educated at Huntingdon College and the University of Alabama. He earned his MFA from the University of Iowa in 1983.

GRAND PRIZE WINNERS NAMED IN STATE SCIENCE FAIR, JUNIOR ACADEMY OF SCIENCE COMPETITIONS AT ECU

Students from Latta, Bartlesville, Grove, Miami, Moore, Tulsa and Vici were the grand prize winners in the 2012 Oklahoma State Science & Engineering Fair and the Oklahoma Junior Academy of Science State Meet held annually at East Central University in Ada.

A combined 256 projects were in the competition for cash prizes and other awards.

In the OSSEF, the $500 Best of Fair Award in Division I (grades 10 to 12) went to Mishana Ellison, a sophomore at Latta High School, for her project, “An examination of plant stomatal response to changing atmospheric conditions.”

EAST CENTRAL UNIVERSITY CLOSED FOR SPRING BREAK NEXT WEEK

All campus offices will be closed during that period with a few exceptions.

The Linscheid Library will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 15, and reopen on Sunday March 24, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

ECU’s Wellness Center hours for spring break will be 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 16 and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 17. From Monday, March 18 to Friday, March 22, the ECU Wellness Center is open from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Saturday, March 23, the hours are from 9 a.m. to noon and Sunday, March 24, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

ECU SELECTED AS CERTIFIED HEALTHY CAMPUS

East Central University was recently selected as a Certified Healthy Campus by the Oklahoma State Department of Health. There were three levels of certification: basic, merit and excellence. ECU received merit certification with the help of its new tobacco-free campus policy. ADA HIGH STUDENT EXCELS AT REGIONAL SCIENCE FAIR AT ECU

Ada High School student Leah Huling (center) is pictured with ECU President John Hargrave (left) and her father Scott Huling after achieving several awards at the recent East Central Oklahoma Regional Science and Engineering Fair. Besides taking first place in the Environmental Sciences division, Leah won the Ricoh Americas Corporation Award for the project that best demonstrates sustainability, bringing corporate, social and environmental responsibilities into balance.
