FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL BEING HELD AT ECU IN FEBRUARY

ADA – February will be a time to view French movies as East Central University, in association with the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, hosts the Fourth Annual French Film Festival during the month.

EAST CENTRAL UNIVERSITY STUDENTS HAVE A CHANCE TO TRAVEL TO SPAIN FOR COLLEGE CREDIT

ADA – East Central University students have a chance to study abroad in Spain during Spring Break, March 14-24, 2014.

The students will join ECU professors Ben Johnson and Dr. Mara Sukholutskaya on the trip which features stops in Madrid, Toledo and Guadalupe. Students can receive six credit hours as they immerse themselves in Spanish culture, history and language.

The cost is $2,895 (price is tentative with a group of 20 and does not include ECU tuition and fees). The deadline for registration is Feb. 7.

ECU PROFESSOR RUTLEDGE RECEIVES BOREN MENTOR AWARD AT STATE CAPITOL

ADA – East Central University’s Dr. Carl Rutledge, a physics professor, received the 2013 David and Molly Boren Mentor Award on Jan. 16 at the State Capitol in Oklahoma City.

The award, presented in conjunction with National Mentoring Month, was sponsored by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence and its David and Molly Boren Initiative. The recognition ceremony was held in the House Chambers on the fourth floor of the State Capitol Building.

ECU TO HOST QUIZ TOURNAMENT ON SATURDAY, FEB. 1

ADA – East Central University will host a Quiz Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 1, beginning at 10 a.m. on the third floor in the Horace Mann Building on the ECU campus.

HONORS ROLLS ANNOUNCED FOR 2013 FALL SEMESTER AT ECU

ADA – East Central University students achieved high academic performance on either the President’s Honor Roll or the Dean’s Honor Roll during the 2013 fall semester.

The President’s Honor Roll is reserved for students who earned A's in all their courses for a perfect 4.0 grade point average. The Deans’ Honor Roll lists students who have at least a 3.33 grade point average with no grade lower than a C. At least 12 credit hours must be completed successfully during the semester to be included on either honor roll.

ECU DEPARTMENT OF NURSING HOSTING SITE REVIEW FOR ACCREDITATION ON WEDNESDAY, JAN. 29

ADA – The East Central University Department of Nursing will host a site review for continuing accreditation of its baccalaureate nursing program by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 4 p.m. on the third floor (room 303) of ECU’s Science Hall.

DOCTORS FROM NEUROSCIENCE FIELD TO SPEAK AT ECU’S RAMADAN SYMPOSIUM ON JAN. 30

ADA – The Second Annual Dr. Raniyah Ramadan Symposium will feature speakers from the neuroscience field on Thursday, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m. at the Estep Auditorium of East Central University’s Bill S. Cole University Center.

The symposium is named in honor of the late Dr. Raniyah Ramadan, who was a research scientist in neuro-ophthalmology.

“Our daughter had a belief in promoting science and research, especially in the neuroscience field,” said Dr. Tawfik Z. Ramadan, who along with his family, sponsor the event. “We do this because we feel that we belong to ECU.”

ADA – The acclaimed Chicago Tap Theatre will bring the Chicago Jazz Club experience to East Central University’s Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts on Friday, Jan, 24 at 7:30 p.m., by recreating the sights and sounds of a smoke-filled Chicago supper club with internationally acclaimed dance works and music. 

VINTAGE QUILT WORKSHOPS, EXHIBITS SCHEDULED AT ECU

ADA – A hands-on quilt workshop and exhibit will be conducted by Judy Howard on Sunday, Jan. 26, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Regents Room of the East Central University’s Memorial Student Union.

Howard, owner of Buckboard Quilts in Oklahoma City for 37 years, will display a collection of Oklahoma historical quilts, dating back to 1834, in a program called “Oklahoma History in Quilts Bed Turning Program.”
