GIFT FROM RAMADAN FOUNDATION TO GO TOWARD STATE-OF-THE-ART RESEARCH FACILITY, PROGRAMS AT EAST CENTRAL UNIVERSITY

A $250,000 gift from the Dr. Raniyah Ramadan Foundation in Oklahoma City will help fulfill one of East Central University’s long-time goals providing a state-of-the-art research facility and program for undergraduate students.

That gift and a $701,100 grant from a Native American Serving Nontribal Institutions Program will provide the bulk of the funding for the Dr. Raniyah Ramadan Center for Undergraduate Research and Learning that will include two undergraduate research labs for biology and one each for chemistry, environmental health science and psychology.

PASSES STILL AVAILABLE FOR 2012-2013 EAST CENTRAL UNIVERSITY FINE ARTS SEASON

Season passes are still on sale for the remaining 2012-2013 East Central University Fine Arts season.

The four remaining feature performances include: Route 66: ‘Finding Nat King Cole’ performed by Jeff Obafemi Carr on Nov. 2, The Gilbert and Sullivan Players in ‘I’ve Got a Little Twist’ on Jan. 24, Broadway by Jeri (Broadway Veteran Jeri Sager) on March 13 and ‘An Evening with Groucho’ performed by Frank Ferrante on April 19.

ALUMNI ACTIVITIES PLANNED FOR EAST CENTRAL UNIVERSITY ON OCT. 5-6

Two big events, hosted by the East Central University Alumni Association, will take place during ‘A Super Tiger Homecoming 2012’ weekend on Oct. 5-6.

The annual homecoming golf tournament, a four-person scramble, is scheduled for the Oak Hills Golf and Country Club in Ada on Friday, Oct. 5. The entry fee is $125 per person with a $5 mulligan fee (limit of four mulligans per team).

BELVILLE SELECTED EARLY SETTLEMENT-EAST CENTRAL VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

While some people find retirement as a time to relax, Chickasha resident Joyce Belville decided to use her time and talents to help others.

Just a few days after retiring from 36 years of service at Fort Sill in Lawton, she attended the Early Settlement Mediation’s Basic Training in 2009.

Three years later, Belville has been selected as Early Settlement-East Central Volunteer of the Year.

UNIVERSITY CHORALE AT EAST CENTRAL UNIVERSITY HONORED

The University Chorale of East Central University was recently chosen by the Oklahoma Music Educators Association as a university-level honor group for 2013.

The honor groups are chosen anonymously by a panel of choral directors from across the state of Oklahoma.

The University Chorale, under the direction of Dr. J. Steven Walker, will perform for the OMEA at its state convention in Tulsa, Jan. 16-19, 2013. This will be the Chorale’s fourth appearance for this prestigious performance since 1989.

ENTRIES BEING ACCEPTED FOR EAST CENTRAL UNIVERSITY’S ‘A SUPER TIGER HOMECOMING 2012’ PARADE

Entries are being accepted until 5 p.m. on Sept. 28 for East Central University’s ‘A Super Tiger Homecoming 2012’ parade, set for noon on Oct. 6 on Ada’s Main Street.

Ada area businesses as well as current ECU registered student organizations are encouraged to participate. The parade is open to floats (trailer pulled by vehicle), decorated car or truck, marching bands and walkers.

There is no entry fee for the parade.

CHICKASAW NATION APPRECIATION DAY SET FOR SATURDAY AT EAST CENTRAL UNIVERSITY

East Central University will honor Native Americans with Chickasaw Nation Appreciation Day on Saturday, Sept. 22, in conjunction with the Tigers’ home football game against Arkansas-Monticello.

Activities begin at 2 p.m. with registration and an information fair for prospective Chickasaw students in the Bill S. Cole University Center on the ECU campus.

FREE CLASSES ON PHOTOVOLTAICS, BUILDING THERMOGRAPHY SCHEDULED AT EAST CENTRAL UNIVERSITY

Free classes in photovoltaics and building thermography will be held soon on the East Central University campus.

The photovoltaics class is scheduled for Sept. 27-28 with a registration deadline of Sept. 25 and the building thermography class is set for Oct. 4-5 with a registration deadline of Oct.2.

The classes run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

East Central University will host the Fall 2012 Career, Internship and Graduate/Professional School Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Bill S. Cole University Center on the ECU campus.
