Enrollment is now open for master artist Nel Dorn Byrd’s watercolor workshop Aug. 3-5 at East Central University. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.
An American Landscape Art Workshop also will be conducted Dec. 13-15 by Bruce Peil of Athens, Texas, a signature member of the Oil Painters of America and the co-founder and signature member of the Outdoor Paint¬ers Society. He is widely recognized for his landscape paintings of the American West and has been featured in several books and magazines.
Byrd’s paintings have been accepted into more than 200 juried regional and national exhibitions, including eight exhibitions just since January of this year. She has received numerous awards and honors and her paintings are in corporate and private collections throughout the United States.
She also was a co-operator of a successful art gallery and frame shop for 21 years.
The Plano, Texas, artist began drawing as a child. She first painted with oils but since 1970 has painted with the medium of watercolor. She studied art at the Midland Institute of Fine Arts, Richland College and the University of Texas at Dallas. She has studied at home and abroad with many watercolor instructors, traveling and painting in 12 different countries.
Byrd paints in a loose, impressionistic style and her works often depict strong light and dark patterns with the play of light giving excitement and interest to any subject.
She is a signature member of several watercolor societies and her work has been included in many publications and books.
