ECU chapter of Dobro Slovo inducts new students

ADA, Okla. – East Central University recently held its annual Dobro Slovo induction ceremony, welcoming four new members into the National Slavic Honor Society.

The 2025 inductees are, Caroline Van Horn, Olivia Hunley, Paul Mills and Royanna Willis.

The event was organized by ECU Chapter co-sponsors Dr. Mara Sukholutskaya and Dr. Joshua Grasso. Chapter President Alivia Cantrell delivered opening remarks and led the initiation pledge.

The Elementary Russian II class taught by Sukholutskaya performed a skit in Russian with students Rafael Charqueno and John Kelso delivering individual presentations as well. In addition, inductees Van Horn, Hunley, Mills and Willis also participated in a poetry recital, featuring selections from prominent Russian poets.

Dobro Slovo was originally founded as a local Slavic Honorary Society on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley in 1926. In 1963, with the help and encouragement of the American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages (AATSEEL), Dobro Slovo became the National Slavic Honor Society.

Since 1963, Dobro Slovo has grown to be an internationally recognized academic Honor Society with a distinguished membership, currently boasting over 130 local chapters with a total membership of 6,200. The society recognizes academic excellence in the study of Slavic languages, literature, history and culture, and encourages continued scholarly interest in Slavic life.
