To celebrate the 2009 International Year of Astronomy and East Central University's Centennial, ECU's Society of Physics Students will host a free public lecture on astronomy at 7 p.m. Friday [April 17] in the Estep Multimedia Center in the University Center.

Dr. Bill Romanishin of the University of Oklahoma will discuss "Boy Beyond Neptune: A look at the amazing discoveries in the outer solar system in the last 10 years."

The lecture is part of an SPS three-state zone meeting Thursday and Friday [April 17-18] at ECU. SPS members from Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri will attend.

The International Year of Astronomy 2009 is a global celebration of astronomy and its contributions to society and culture. This year's celebration marks the 400th anniversary of the first use of an astronomical telescope by Galileo Galilei.
