Dr. Katricia Guyn Pierson has been named East Central University’s assistant vice president for academic affairs, effective July 1. Her appointment was approved Friday [APRIL 15] by the Board of Regents of the Regional University System of Oklahoma.

Pierson has been associate dean of academic assessment since 2008 at William Woods University in Fulton, Mo. She has taught at William Woods since 2004 and holds the rank of associate professor of English. She also is chair of the Science and Humanities Division.

She was director of the university honors program from 2007 to 2010.

“Dr. Pierson has demonstrated the ability to make positive changes that help students move more efficiently through their programs at William Woods as well as promote fiscal efficiencies for the university,” said Dr. Duane C. Anderson, provost and vice president for academic affairs.

“She also has developed and implemented an assessment program and been involved with higher education issues at the state level,” he said. Pierson previously taught English at Pikeville College in Kentucky from 2001 to 2004 and was a graduate student instructor from 1996 to 2000 at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

 She earned a bachelor’s degree in English and journalism secondary education in 1988 from the University of Wyoming. She received a master’s degree in English in 1998 and a doctorate in English in 2004, both from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
