The popular Athletic Injury Management Seminar will be offered in Shawnee for the first time July 14-15 [MONDAY-TUESDAY] by East Central University. The class will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Gordon Cooper Technology Center.

The course meets Oklahoma's state requirement for Care and Prevention for Secondary School Coaches. It offers basic instruction for new and experienced coaches and others in the care, prevention, assessment and management of frequently injured parts of the body.

The class also teaches that understanding how the body reacts and responds to injury is vital to understanding athletic injuries. Additional medical concerns will be addressed relating to athletic participation, including such topics as illness, disease, legal issues and professional responsibilities.

The course includes web-posted notes and PowerPoint presentations as instructional aids via Web-CT. Eric Monroe, ECU instructor of kinesiology and athletic trainer, is a licensed athletic trainer and the former head athletic trainer for the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz. He is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association.

To enroll, contact Ed Richardson at GCTC, 405-273-7493.
