ADA, Okla. – East Central University recently hosted the 104th Interscholastic Meet. The event, a long-standing tradition for ECU, brought a record 575 high school students from across the state to ECU.
“The first time I was on a college campus was for an Interscholastic Meet,” said Interim Dean for the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Dr. Mark Walling as he explained the importance of the event.
“An Interscholastic Meet not only allows us to provide an important, academically engaging opportunity for high school students,” continued Walling, “but it also allows us to build relationships with the schools, the teachers and the students.”
High School students from 35 different schools, ranging in distance from Tupelo to Idabel, traveled to ECU to participate in the event.
More than 20 test options were available from Shakespeare to Accounting, Microsoft to Creative Advertising and Choices in Wellness to American Democracy, along with other diverse topics.
This year also featured an art competition, with the student’s art being judged and displayed as well as music competitions for both instrumental and voice categories.
First thru Fifth place was awarded for each test with Juniors and Seniors who placed First thru Third receiving ECU tuition scholarships.
Plans to continue the growth and development of the Interscholastic Meet are already underway, with the 105th event already promising to be another success.
