Free classes in photovoltaics and building thermography will be held soon on the East Central University campus.

The photovoltaics class is scheduled for Sept. 27-28 with a registration deadline of Sept. 25 and the building thermography class is set for Oct. 4-5 with a registration deadline of Oct.2.

The classes run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Photovoltaic systems are renewable energy systems capable of generating electricity from sunlight for residential, small public and light commercial buildings. The course will include system design, solar resource and site assessment tools, component selection, system sizing calculations and basics of system installation.

The photovoltaics class will bring attendees up to date on the latest technologies in powering the home, business, deer camp, or RV via sunlight.

Thermography is the science of visualizing infrared energy (heat) patterns. It has applications in a number of industries and in determining environmental conditions.

ECU will provide day care for children of parents enrolled in the classes. The university also will award certificates for all the participants who complete the class.

The grant for these classes will end soon so the cost of these courses will be approximately $995 after Jan. 1, 2013.
