ADA, Okla. - East Central University’s annual sidewalk chalk art festival, “Grounded,” returns to the ECU Centennial Plaza Thursday, Oct. 5.

Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. with artists starting their works at 9 a.m. All artists will have until 3:30 p.m. to complete their work and judging will begin immediately after.

“The Grounded Chalk Art Festival is a wonderful opportunity for ECU students, area schoolchildren, and members of the community to create and celebrate public art on the ECU campus,” said Sarah Engel, chair of Art + Design : Media + Communication.

Awards will be given at 4 p.m. with an art sale and live music taking place at 5:30 p.m.

The entry fee is $10 for a 10 x10 foot space for groups or individuals competing for awards. Four categories make up the competition: grades 6 and below, grades 7-9, grades 10-12, and college age.

All chalk art must be created on Oct. 5. Only the water-soluble temporary chalk provided at check in can be used. Spaces will be assigned at check in. Any artists that begin early will be disqualified. Artists can register onsite.
