An Instrumental Ensembles Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday [OCT. 27] will showcase East Central University students performing in the Flute, Clarinet and Brass Ensembles. The free concert will be open to the public in the Ataloa Theatre in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

The Brass Ensemble, conducted by Frank Zugelder, will perform "Canzon noni toni" by Giovanni Gabrieli, "A Centennial Fanfare" by John Zdechlik, "Australian Up-Country Tune" by Percy Grainger and "Allegro" from "The Water Music" by George Frederic Handel.

Juliana Overmier will conduct the Flute Ensemble in the traditional "Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair" and "One for Four" by Cynthia Folio. The ensemble will play many members of the flute family, including the soprano flute, the alto flute and the bass flute.

"The addition of the larger flutes to the choir expands the range and depth of the music while still maintaining the beautiful blended timbres that only flutes can create," Overmier said.

The Clarinet Ensemble, under the direction of Michael Whitmore, will perform "Blue Twilight" by Harold L. Walters and "Largo Appassionata, Op. 2, No. 2" by Ludwig von Beethoven.
