ADA, Okla. – East Central University professor, Narciso Arguelles, recently traveled across the globe to visit the American Robert College of Istanbul, Turkey.
Robert College is a selective, independent, co-educational, private high school located on a 265-acre campus in the Besiktas district of Istanbul. The school has served its community and country for 160 years.
Arguelles, who previously taught at Robert College for three years and now serves as a representative of ECU, returned to the high school to lecture, take part in critiques for the school’s AP Art Class and work on a mural project with students.
The project began with a mural design from Arguelles former Robert College student, Derin Alper. While at ECU, Arguelles began his work on the mural, painting it onto a material known as mural cloth before returning to Istanbul and allowing the AP Art students at Robert College, many of them his own formers students, to finish the painting.
"It was a pleasure to visit my old school and work with my old colleagues and former students,” said Arguelles. “The experience was rejuvenating. "
The mural now hangs in the hallway of the Robert College Music Department, marking the end of an artistic journey that spanned from ECU in Ada, Okla. all the way to Istanbul, Turkey.
