ADA, Okla. - Professor Bakhtiyor Gafurov from Bukhara State Medical Institute, named after Abu Ali ibn Sino, Uzbekistan, was a guest of East Central University, April 6-9.
The purpose of the visit was to explore opportunities and academic areas for the cooperation between Bukhara State Medical Institute and ECU.
During his visit, Gafurov had a chance to meet with ECU President Wendell Godwin, ECU deans, faculty and students.
Being from a Medical University, Gafurov was truly impressed with ECU’s Nursing Program and the upcoming Dan Hays STEM Center. He also toured the university thanks to the assistance of the Office of Enrollment Management.
Gafurov taught a Russian class and observed several other classes. Additionally, he had a chance to tour the Chickasaw Cultural Center in Sulphur, Okla. He was impressed with the museum and enjoyed the Bedre chocolates he purchased to take back home.
“During my stay at ECU I was able to gain a valuable experience and to establish professional and friendly ties with the colleagues, administrators and students,” Gafurov stated. “I especially would like to thank President Wendell Godwin, Dr. Michael Scott, Dr. Ken Andrews, Dr. Stacy Bolin and Dr. Mara Sukholutskaya for their hospitality, generosity and their sincere interest in my country and my university. I have shared the wonderful memories of my stay in Ada with colleagues at my university.” He concluded, “I hope that the foundation of our relations that was laid in April will be long-lasting, mutually beneficial and will start bringing first positive results in the nearest future.”
