A benefit recital on Monday [FEB. 27] will help an East Central University student raise money for a study abroad trip to Ukraine and Russia in May. An auction of Russian items will follow the recital.

ECU’s Russian Studies Program and the ECU Russian Club will host the Jacob Stevens Benefit Recital at 6:30 p.m. in the Regents Room in Knight Hall. It is free to the public but donations will be appreciated.

Stevens is a junior from McAlester who is majoring in vocal music with a minor in Russian studies.

The program will include classical and popular Russian music such as “Moscow Nights,” “None but the Lonely Heart” and “Golden Grove.” Pianist Rudy Lupinski will accompany Stevens. Also performing will be Dr. Melody Baggech and Sheena Stallings

“Jacob has a beautiful baritone voice,” said Dr. Mara Sukholutskaya, professor of English and languages and director of Global Education. “He has performed in ‘South Pacific,’ ‘Marriage of Figaro’ and other ECU productions.”

Sukholutskaya said donated Russian items such as the famous Matryoshka dolls and carved wooden Santas will be included in the auction.
