State Rep. Emily Virgin will deliver East Central University’s annual Lou Watkins Lecture at noon Tuesday, Jan. 26, in Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

A lunch, which is free and open to the public, will be served prior to the lecture at 11:30 a.m., but reservations are required by contacting Dr. Christine Pappas at 580-559-5640 or cpappas@ecok.edu.

Virgin, a Democrat representing District 44 (Cleveland County) in the House of Representatives, has served in that position since being elected in 2010 at the age of 23.

She is a member of the Appropriations and Budget, Higher Education and Career Tech and Judiciary and Civil Procedure Committees in the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

The purpose of the lectureship, which honors Lou Watkins, former chair of ECU's political science department, is to bring recognized authorities to ECU to address subjects of public interest at the local, state or national level.

Watkins taught at ECU from 1980 until 1991 when she and her husband, former U.S. Rep. Wes Watkins, moved from Ada. She is president of World Export Services Inc. and is a member of the Board of Regents for the Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical Colleges.
