Enrollment is open for two summer classes at East Central University required for educators wanting to become certified as school superintendents.

Because of changes last year in state law, educators must complete an approved preparation program and pass the tests for certification in order to add the School Superintendent area to an existing administration certificate.

ECU's School Superintendent Program has been approved by the Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation. Courses for the program are offered in a one-year rotation and spaces in the program are limited.

The classes for certification ECU will offer this summer in a live/web format are Educ 5723, Advanced Legal Aspects of Education, taught by Dr. Ralph Sharp, and Educ 5773, Politics and Governance of Schools, taught by Dr. John Bedford.

The summer classes require students to attend live sessions on the ECU campus on June 6 [FRIDAY] and additional live classes that will be held on campus and also be transmitted to Ardmore, McAlester and Shawnee on June 13 [FRIDAY] and June 18 [FRIDAY]. The remainder of the course work for the two classes will be completed in a blended web format using the Blackboard delivery system.

Fall classes for the program include Educ 5793, The Superintendency, taught by Dr. Bill Osborne, and Educ 5062, Administrative Practicum I, taught by Dr. Ralph Sharp. Educ 5793 will meet on Wednesdays at 4:25 p.m. live at ECU and will be available via ITV at Ardmore, McAlester and Shawnee. Educ 5062 will meet on a to-be-announced format.
