Free green energy job training will be offered in January to all eligible veterans in a Green Pre-Construction Trades Academy in Oklahoma City by the Veterans Workforce Investment Program. A mandatory orientation/employment training class will be held either Wednesday [JAN. 15] or Jan. 6 in Oklahoma City.

The four-week classes will start Jan. 10 and will be conducted by the Veterans Workforce Investment Program based at East Central University in Ada. It will include training in such areas as aerial work rescue, fall protection, construction math, wind turbine orientation, hand signals and hoisting, solar orientation, boom capacity, basic knots/rigging, CDL permit training and safety and first aid training.

The classes will prepare veterans to enter construction trades and/or apprenticeship program areas as electricians, plumbers/pipe fitters, wind and solar technicians, masons, insulators, sheet metal or iron workers, carpenters, truck drivers, utility workers and welders.

The training is conducted through a partnership with the Western Oklahoma Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee. A limited amount of supportive services may be available to help veterans attend the training sessions.
