The work of award-winning artist Jerry Smith is on exhibit through Nov. 30 [FRIDAY] at East Central University. The University Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and there is no admission charge.

Smith has been a professor of painting and art appreciation at Collin College in McKinney, Texas, since 2005. He also taught five years at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, Iowa.

He received a fellowship to the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 1985 and earned a master of fine arts degree from the University of Kansas in 1987. He has had an eclectic art and work career, intertwining 70 one-man and juried group exhibitions and college guest lectures with adjunct teaching, factory assembly, family, and directing services for adults with disabilities.

His art is also eclectic in style and media, from assemblage painting and sculpture to collage drawing, prints and installation.

Recent awards include the Juror's Award at the San Diego Art Institute's 42nd International Exhibition, and his selection for the 2005 Texas National exhibition.
