ADA, Okla. – East Central University presents the production of “Urinetown” in the Ataloa Theatre, located inside the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center (HBFFAC), April 18-20 at 7:30 p.m.

"Although not a title that is as well-known as some, and maybe even a little awkward, Urinetown is a great musical that audiences will love.” said Jamie Davis, technical director and events coordinator for HBFFAC. “It's one of those shows that allows you take a thought provoking look at the world around you in such a ridiculous way that you can't help but be amused and entertained. The cast is great and has worked hard, so I really think everyone is going to love the end result!"

A two-act satirical musical written by Greg Kotis and directed by ECU’s Vickie Reifsnider, “Urinetown,” takes place in a Gotham-like city where the corrupt CEO of the Urine Good Company takes advantage of a severe water shortage that has led to a government enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must now use public amenities that are regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs.

Bobby Strong, who works at the poorest, filthiest public restroom in town, starts a rebellion against the oppressive regime, only to find out that his fight for freedom intertwines with his budding love life, and hard choices must be made.

Urinetown the musical explores themes of capitalism, bureaucracy, and the fight for freedom and justice while at the same time adding slap-stick comedy to lighten the atmosphere.

Organized and performed by ECU’s Showtime, Urinetown will feature Christi Wans as orchestra director, Jamie Davis as technical director and music by Rudy Lupinski with Ember McCurdy as stage manager.

The musical also casts a long list of staff and ECU Showtime students including, Scout James, John Kelso, Chance Palmer, Glennon Selke, John Roberts, Jeff Ray, Barrick Scribner, Delaney Rutherford, Madyson Bonner, Lanie Green, Peyton Leu, Morgan Phillipe, Olivia Joe, Sarah Winn, Nicole Erwin, Brittini Wall, Kaylee Hacker, Shelby Davis, Evelyn Davis, Brianna Jo Davis and Addison Guinn.
